Innovative Health Program

Killarney Memorial has received a four year Federal Government grant from the “Innovative Models of Care Program” to trial a new health care model for people living in Killarney and the surrounding districts.

A team of health professionals will focus on a holistic approach to each person’s medical care, including improved mental and physical health.

The team will include GPs, community support workers, counsellors, nutritionists and other allied health specialists.

We will also implement various community programs such as fitness and nutrition groups, a mothers’ group, an intergenerational community garden, a substance and alcohol abuse program, and a collaboration with the local school on community projects.

We will be forming a Dementia Alliance in the town and a new palliative care program both onsite and as an outreach program.

If the trial is successful, the program can be replicated by other rural and remote towns throughout Australia.
